In The Art Gallery:

Bay Area Artist Laurie Long currently is exhibiting a quirky series of self-portraits likely to pique the interest of readers, writers and, quite possibly, clinical psychologists. Long was an avid reader of Nancy Drew mysteries as a girl and identified with the teenage detective to such a degree that her childhood memories became entangled with the fictional character’s adventures. In her self-portraits, Long assumes the persona of Nancy Drew and photographs herself-as-Nancy in the role of intrepid sleuth. Becoming Nancy Drew and other work by Long - including her Live Action Painting Bra and Panty Vending Machine - will show at the San Jose Museum of Art through June 5. When art and language intersect, VerbSap is supremely happy.
